PREAMBLE
The Department aims to provide diagnostic laboratory and clinical services, training to medical and paramedical staff and students and to conduct research.
SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES
The Department offers routine/emergency services in clinical chemistry. This is in addition to training of resident doctors, medical students and medical laboratory scientists and interns.
Our test menu for routine services included electrolytes, urea, creatinine, uric acid, glucose, protein, liver function, lipid profile, enzymes, hormonal assays and tumour markers in all body fluids. We also assayed occult blood and fecal fat in stool and also dip stick urinalysis.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
i) Training of pre-part I residents on rotation
ii) Training of medical students in posting
iii) Training of medical lab. Scientists and interns
iv) Training of I.T. students from other university (ties) and school of Health Technology.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT
A scientist has returned from a training course in the United State of America sponsored by Exxon Mobil – Nigeria. The ADMLS was sponsored by the hospital for a training workshop in leadership which held in Lagos.
ACHIEVEMENT
There was tremendous achievement in the area of turn around time e.g. serum creatinine which was reported to have taken several days to be provided now has its result ready within 24 hours of request. We have redesigned the chemical pathology request forms to accommodate information relevant to our current status as a tertiary/referral diagnostic facility.
