Functions of the Department
Care for patients who have musculoskeletal disease including limb, spine and pelvic trauma
Domicile and develop clubfoot care
Fabricating prosthetic and orthotic devices
Train residents in and passing through the department
The VISION of this department is to provide musculoskeletal care for its patients with compassion, consideration of resource realities and patients’ needs and enhance early rehabilitation.
The staff of this Department are a cohesive group of professionals who deal daily with a unique and diverse set of patients – high turnover/very long stay, often well but in the limbs and therefore restive, spread through the hospital and daily received in the Accident and Emergency. These diligent Ladies and Gentlemen are known for their courtesy, cleanliness, attention to detail and patient-centred structure. The staff range from Orthopaedic and Trauma surgeons, Resident Doctors and House Officers, Othopaedic Nurses and non-specialist Nurses and Porters’. Peculiarly, this unit works closely with other specialists viz: the Plastic/Reconstructive surgeons and Physiotherapists.
Scope of Responsibilities
- Treatment of patients with musculoskeletal injuries
- Treatment of non-trauma patients with musculoskeletal/peripheral nerve disease
- Treatment of patients with head injuries
- Treatment of trauma patients not otherwise specified.
Surgical: A number of operations includes major, minor, inpatients and outpatients were carried out.
