Currently, the doctors in the department are divided into firms with consultants at the head. There are currently three firms. However, in accordance with recommendations of both the National and West African Postgraduate Medical colleges, the department has been restructured and additional firm has been added. Thus, the different firms are now created on the basis of the different sub-specialties in Obstetrics/Gynaecology. This is virtually the practice all over the world. These changes will take effect from the 1st of February 2012. The distributions of the firms are as follows:
- Firm 1- Oncology
- Firm 2- Reproductive health
- Firm 3- Community obstetrics
- Firm 4- Urogynaecology
With the addition of another firm, in addition to that stated above, Gynaecological clinic for the new firm (4) will now be on Wednesday (1pm-5pm), while 9am -1pm on Thursdays will be for the antenatal clinic. The booking clinics will now be holding on Wednesday morning.
