The department of Internal Medicine is an academic/clinical service unit with the overall objective of providing training for medical students, interns (house officers) and resident doctors, as well as specialized/tertiary medicare for the population of Akwa Ibom State and some adjourning states. It is one of the major departments of the College of Health Sciences of the University of Uyo.
The actual departmental clinical activity commenced in 2001. However academic activities could not begin because there were just 2 Consultant staff and the clinical service was overwhelming.
