Haematology Department comprises various Units/Laboratories namely:
– Haematology Laboratory
– Transfusion Medicine Laboratory
– Serology Laboratory
– Blood Donor Bleeding Room.
The Department is involved in the provision of Clinical Laboratory services for patient care, teaching and research.
Weekly Haematology Outpatient Clinic holds every Tuesday afternoon from 2pm. Patients are however expected to visit the Department in the morning of the day of Clinic appointment to have their blood tests done so that their results will be ready by the clinic time in the afternoon.
Haematology Day Care:
The department operates a Day Care Centre where Haematology patients receive emergency care e.g. Blood Transfusion only, or parenteral drugs or other similar outpatient treatment. The Day Care Centre operates between 8am and 6pm only Monday – Fridays.
RESEARCH AND PUBLICATION
Some research programmes have been initiated in the Department and were on-going in the area of Transfusion Medicine, Haematology of the neonate, Haematology changes in HIV etc.
LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE/ACHIEVEMENTS
The new Microscopes purchased for the Laboratory have improved the level of performance and turn around time of results.
