DEPUTY CMAC (Research & Training)

Dr. Christie Divine Akwaowo is a Consultant Public Health Physician, Lecturer.and Researcher in Health Management, Policy and Global Health. She is a Senior Lecturer in University of Uyo and currently the Deputy CMAC and Director for Research and Training in the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital.
Dr. Christie is a graduate of the University of Calabar, Nigeria, London School of Economics and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Dr. Christie Akwaowo is a Fellow of the Kofi Annan Global Public Health Leadership Program. She is also a Fellow of the National Post Graduate Medical College of Nigeria. She’s an avid researcher and advocate for Universal Health Coverage.
As Director, Institute of Health Research and Development UUTH, she seeks to strengthen and institutionalize research, forging collaborations across international boundaries. Besides, she has worked at the grassroot level, training Community Health Workers for the Nigerian Health system.
Her passion for health systems strengthening, research and capacity development in public health sets her apart as a Global Health Researcher. Her current research interests are on implementation research, design and adoption of e-health and technologies for improved access to health for the rural poor and innovative models on how to engage the informal sectors of the economy for health insurance and other safety mechanisms to ensure Universal Health Coverage.
