COMMUNITY HEALTH OFFICERS TRAINING SCHOOL, UNIVERSITY OF UYO TEACHING HOSPITAL, UYO

INTRODUCTION
The Community Health Officers’ Training School was established for the purpose of training Community Health Officer (CHOs). These are health staff who are very relevant in the primary health care concept in health care delivery. The school was given accreditation to train CHOs by the Community Health Practitioners’ Registration Board in 2006. The school commenced in January 2007. The first batch of students for higher diploma programme was admitted September 2008 and the second batch of students was admitted September 2009.
SERVICES RENDERED
The staff in the school carry out several duties including the following:-
- Conducting entrance examinations yearly for incoming students.
- Teaching of the students in the classrooms and in practical areas.
- Organizing seminar presentations among the students.
- Supervising students on clinical procedure and ward based assessment.
- Supervising students’ research work.
- Conducting semester examinations and preparing students for the yearly national examinations
- Organizing matriculation and convocation ceremonies
RESEARCH AND PUBLICATIONS
Students are carrying out research on chosen and approved topics under supervision since research is a key aspect of their curriculum.
LEVELS OF PERFORMANCE/ACHIEVEMENT
The students’ level of performance is seen or demonstrated through internal/semester examinations. The second year batch of students graduated in 2010 and also took their national examination in November, 2010.
