On Management’s efforts towards providing an improved medical health care delivery, a new Amenity ward has been commissioned at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital Uyo.
Speaking at the commissioning of the wards, the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital Professor Etete Peters noted that the completion of the project, which is a one storey building with twenty 20 room self- contained and four (4) suits fully equipped, is in fulfillment of his dreams to make the hospital a Medical Tourist Destination. The essence is to allow patients have a blissful comfort while receiving treatment in the hospital he said.
The CMD explained that, with the state of the art facility, patients would now be encouraged to come to the hospital to seek medical attention, fully aware that they will have a comfortable stay, for quick recovery. It will also add value to the services provided in the hospital to the entire people of Akwa Ibom and beyond.
Inaugurating the Amenity Wards, the Chairman Governing Board of Management of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Mr. Biyi Otegbeye, congratulated the Chief Medical Director and other Management Staff of the hospital not only on the new Amenity Ward but also for the infrastructural development seen in the hospital over a short period of time. He commended them for utilizing
the little resources provided to achieve great results saying that it shows great fiscal discipline on their part.
He noted that the initiative was a good one as it followed the trend globally. The new amenity ward according to him, is not just for the elites but an act that promotes wellness culture since the emphasis worldwide now is that hospitals should not only exist to treat patients but should also address the issue of making people healthy to minimize reoccurrences and sickness as a whole. This he stated was the kind of culture that the Chief Medical Director and Management were advancing with the provision of such facilities.
Mr. Otegbeye further stated that the act was also a reflection of the direction of the Federal Government regarding promoting quality health care for the citizenry.
