The University of Uyo Teaching Hospital recently hosted a grand celebration for the 129th World Radiography Day, themed “Promoting the Profession.” The event, organized by the Association of Radiographers of Nigeria (ARN) Akwa Ibom State Chapter, brought together dignitaries and representatives from various professions.
Prof. Emem Bassey, the chief host, congratulated the radiographers and emphasized the importance of collaboration with other healthcare professionals to achieve the hospital’s goals. He also pledged to continue supporting the radiography department by acquiring advanced diagnostic equipment.
The celebration featured a range of events, including symposium, health talk, and public awareness.
Other highlights of the event included a keynote address by Dr. Valentines C. Ikamaise and the inauguration of the ARN UUTH Exco’s. The occasion also saw the presentation of goodwill messages from esteemed guests.
World Radiography Day is celebrated annually on November 8 to commemorate the discovery of x-radiation by Wilhelm Roentgen in 1895 ¹. It’s a day to recognize the vital contributions of radiographers to modern healthcare and promote public awareness of diagnostic imaging and radiation therapy.
