They vision for the year was a focused resident-driven residency programme and the mission was to build on the achievements of the previous year.
AVAILABILITY INFRASTRUCTURE
The new maternity block which became operational by December 2008 gave impetus to influx of neonatal patients. In all there was 30 beds, 42 cots, 12 photothery units, 2 radiant warmers. The new Children’s Emergency Ward/Children outpatient Clinic was completed in 2009. Within are consulting rooms, spacious waiting area, side laboratory, maternity offices departmental library, records room, revenue room, DTU, Isolation room and resuscitation area. There is ongoing refurbishing of old equipments and acquisition of new ones.
SERVICES RENDERED/DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES
Regular services are offered to children at CHER, CHOP and Paediatrics/Surgical Ward. Routine weekly seminar/clinical presentation meetings still hold on Wednesdays at 2.00pm. Resident seminars are on Tuesdays. The bedside teaching takes place but are as regular as expected. Mortality meetings and journals club review activities are regular. The same can be said of perinatal mortality meetings.
RESEARCH AND PUBLICATION
Research have been going on. Seven manuscripts have been sent for publication.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT
Four consultants, four resident doctors attended the 2009 PANCOFF held in Ibadan. Four resident doctors attended the pre-conference training workshop in neonatal resuscitation and different aspects of training by development partners have been ongoing in HIV related issues.
LEVELS OF PERFORMANCE/ACHIEVEMENT
In view of the set target of services rendered, departmental activities carried out, infrastructural capacity build up, researches undertaken, improved number of admission and outpatient attendance, researches undertaken we had about 78% performance/achievement.
