In a commendable effort to support a rural community, interns from the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) successfully organized a health awareness campaign and outreach in Ikot Ntuen, Nsit Ibom LGA.
The event took place at Emilis Nursery/Primary School and gathered a team of dedicated medical professionals and students who provided important health services to the residents.
Throughout the campaign, the interns engaged the community with health talks, counseling, dental check-ups, eye exams, and HIV/Hepatitis testing, all aimed at fostering improved health and well-being in the region.
Representing the Chief Medical Director and hospital management, Dr. Clement Udo-Inyang, Chairman of the Medical and Advisory Committee (CMAC) at UUTH, highlighted the significance of this initiative as part of the hospital’s commitment to corporate social responsibility. “As medical professionals, it is essential that we give back to the community,” he stated. “As noted in Deuteronomy 15:11, ‘there will always be poor people in the lane musty to care for them.” He also expressed appreciation to Honorable Emil Brown, the Proprietor of Emilis International Nursery and Primary School, for providing the school as a venue for this outreach.
The event was a constructive collaboration among community leaders, donors, and stakeholders who are deeply invested in advancing health and well-being in the area.
Nurse Ofonime Eshiet, Deputy Head of Nursing at the Continuing Education Unit, delivered an insightful health talk focusing on cleanliness and personal hygiene, emphasizing the importance of proper handwashing and sanitation practices.
The interns’ initiatives made a significant and positive impact on the lives of the individuals they served. This health awareness campaign and outreach reflect the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital’s ongoing commitment to enhancing community healthcare and education.
