The attention of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital and the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has been drawn to a social media advert which suggests that the Department of Orthopaedics treats club foot deformities in children by surgical operations .
We wish to inform the general public that we do not treat clubfoot deformities in children by surgical techniques. We comply strictly with the principles of non-operative treatment of clubfoot as propounded by Ponseti .
However, it is true that the services are rendered free of any charges. This is because the treatment is sponsored by the combined effort of the Miraclefeet foundation (USA) and Straightchild foundation (Umuahia, NIGERIA), in partnership with University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH), Uyo.
The general public is hereby advised to be properly guided.
