CMD UUTH, DR. EMEM BASSEY HOSTS COMMISSIONER FOR HEALTH

The Chief Medical Director, University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Uyo, recently held a grand reception in honour of Prof. Augustine Umoh, the new Commissioner for Health, Akwa Ibom State.

The event which took place at Dr. Bassey’s residence had Honourable Commissioner and spouse, Permanent Secretary, Hospital Management Board, Mrs. Stella Etukakpan and Chairman, Primary Healthcare Representatives. Also in attendance were the new EXCO of NMA, led by its Chairman, Dr. ImeUdoh, the former NMA Chairman, Board members of University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, other Medical Consultants, as well as management, Union representatives and staff of University of Uyo Teaching Hospital.

Welcoming the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Emem Bassey said University of Uyo Teaching Hospital received with joy the appointment of Prof. Augustine Umoh; knowing his abilities, he is fit for the position.

He also congratulated new EXCO members of Nigeria Medical Association and urged them to improve on what their predecessor had done in order to attain greater heights.

In his response, the Hon. Commissioner for Health, Akwa Ibom State, Prof. Augustine Umoh, thanked Dr. Emem Bassey and the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital for the honour, and promised to adapt to realities found as well as assist the hospital in whatever capacity and called for unity in the administration of University of Uyo Teaching Hospital and Nigerian Medical Association.

According to him, having been within the Nigerian Medical Association family, “change” is constant as such, new efforts should be applied as whatever is worth doing is worth doing well.

The Permanent Secretary, Hospital Management Board, Mrs. Stella Etukakpan congratulated Prof. Umoh, pledging the Board’s solidarity and preparedness to work with him for the functionality of all hospitals in the state.

On his part, Dr. Umoh said the race is to make progress in the Health Sector to the glory of God and service to humanity.

Dr. Umoh Iyoho who described Prof. Augustine Umoh as a pace setter said he has confidence that the Commissioner will make a difference and promised to stand by him to succeed, advising him not to bring in politics on issues concerning the health sector.

On behalf of Board of Management, University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Prof. Essoh said he has no doubt that Prof Augustine Umoh will discharge his duties well and prayed for God’s guidance throughout his tenure as the State Commissioner for Health.

Also, the Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association, Dr. Ime Udoh congratulated Prof Umoh, expressing gratitude to Dr. Ememabasi Bassey for honouring him. He prayed for more discipline, passion and a cordial relationship in the medical profession in the State.

In a vote of thanks, the Director of Administration of University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Dr. (Barr.) Fidelis Akpan described Prof. Augustine Umoh as a good fellow who will do creditably well in his new position and prayed for higher appointments in future.
