The University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Uyo has marked its 2016 end of year activities with a thanksgiving service at the UUTH House Officers’ Lawn.
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Etete Peters described the 2016 year’s thanksgiving as a great privilege that God Almighty has granted staff to be partakers.
He commended Management and staff for their hard-work and commitment to the services of the institution despite the economic recession experienced in the country and urged them to sustain it. In the spirit of the season, he wished all staff a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2017.
The homily with the topic ‘Thanksgiving’ delivered by Dr. Sylvanus Ukafia of the Insight Bible Church, Uyo, admonished Christians to live a life of thanksgiving to God despite circumstances and make Christianity practical through good works to the glory of God.
One of the high points of the ceremony was the presentation of awards by the Chief Medical Director to 26 staff of the hospital who distinguished themselves in the discharge of their duties.
The Chairman, Planning Committee of the 2016 end of year celebration, Dr. Catherine Eyo, thanked the Chief Executive of the hospital as well as management for the support given to the committee in making the event a success. She commended the Awardees for being outstanding and urged all staff to be more committed to service delivery.
As part of the activities marking the end of year, football matches were earlier played at the UUTH House Officers’ Lawn. The matches were between teams A, B, C & D.
Team A was made up of Administration, Works and Finance Departments, while Team B included Nursing Services, Stores, Physiotherapy and Team C, Lab, Pharmacy, Radiology while Doctors were of Team D.
Team D representing Doctors defeated Team B with a 3-2 aggregate.
A 2-0 win saw Team A through over Team C.
Team B defeated Team C with a 1-0 score in a third place match, while Team A defeated Doctors of Team D with 3-2 scores in a penalty shootout to emerge the overall winner of the tournament.
Trophies were given to the winning team and runners up by the Chief Medical Director.
The end of year football activities ended with a novelty football match between Management staff and Nursing Services department with a score of 1-0 in favour of Management team.
The event was witnessed by staff and friends of UUTH, Uyo.
