UUTH HOSTS 3RD QUARTER UROLOGICAL SURGEONS’ WORKSHOP

 The University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Uyo, has hosted the 3rd Quarter, Nigerian Association of Urological Surgeons – Karl Storz Endourology Workshop.

Urology is a surgical specialty which deals with diseases of the male and female urinary tract and reproductive organs.

The workshop through the various lectures was aimed at determining the national practice patterns in the management of Lower Urinary Tract Endoscopy, tips and tricks on the technique of Transurethral Resection of the Prostrate, Diagnosis and Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumours and the Principles of High Frequency Electrosurgery.

The three day workshop was formally declared open by the Chief Medical Director of UUTH, Professor Etete Peters.

In his welcome remarks, he thanked God for the safe arrival of guests and welcome them to Akwa  Ibom State.

He expressed delight to the association for finding UUTH worthy to host this year’s workshop.

Commending the association, Professor Peters noted that it was a very worthy example of how professionals should come together to encourage themselves and impact the skills especially on the junior ones and applauded them for making nurses and other health workers to be part of the workshop.

Speaking during the occasion, the president, National Association of Urological Surgeon Professor J.C Orakwe disclosed that the association was formed in 2007 and had its first workshop in Jos, and started having the workshop quarterly in all the geo-political zones from 2011.

He applauded the Chief Medical Director for his profound commitment to the success of the workshop and expressed gratitude to Karl Storz for being a reliable partner.

In his remarks the representative of Karl Storz, Mr. Victor thanked the association for the opportunity to partner with them.

 Speaking earlier the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Health Dr. Dominic Ukpong thanked the association for inviting him and expressed delight for making him part of it.

He assured of the Governor’s support and promised to assist them financially.

Dr. Ukpong called for future provision of a bigger projector for a clearer presentation during workshops and a bigger hall, advising that the cost be made known to the Government on time for assistance.
